Biography

Opencloud is the result of many years, relationships, a lot of faith, and long studio nights. Consisting of Corey Spengler and Blake Potter, Opencloud formed in the early fall of 2004. Blake and Corey joined together to explore new territory for both of them and to push their music to its furthest reaching breaking point.

As a child Blake began taking an interest to the musical adventures of his uncle Kevin and his father Gene. Uncle Kevin, quickly influenced Blake with his unique taste of electronic music. Coming home to find his sister rehearsing to a song Kevin had written, his uncle immediately asked him to play along on the drums. From that moment on, Blake fell in love with making music, and it never stopped.
Since the age of 9, Blake started making synth-pop music and touring clubs with his sister Brittany and brother Ian. As the family grew older their music went in different directions, Blake later realized that after 2 bands, 6 band mates, and 5 albums, he had to re-think things and take a different, more independent approach to making music.

Jumping back to 1984, Corey’s brother brought home a 12” of Time Zone’s track, World Destruction. Instantly he became fascinated with the sounds, thus sparking a lifelong commitment to electronic music. Inspired by music from New Order, Kraftwerk, 808 State, Yaz, Pet Shop Boys, and as dance music evolved, Corey started DJing parties.
It was during college he realized there was more to learn, and with some courage, he drove 2 hours to buy his first groove box. But with graduation looming, Corey set the groove box aside, focused on DJing and getting out of college. Once receiving his Engineering degree life became a bit more settled, while dance music was evolving rapidly. In the late 1990’s, he continued listening to the big club sounds coming out of England, and wanted to experience it. With a little planning he was able to attend festivals like Creamfields and Leeds, also clubs like Ministry of Sound and the Velvet Room. From these trips he realized the urge to learn music production was real, and over time started meeting people in the scene; immediately beginning to produce with several individuals.

Opencloud was born through a friend of a friend; they ended up meeting, and instantly hit it off, but due to busy schedules did not reunite for another year… As time has proven Corey and Blake finally found what they had been trying to express for so long, having the ability to effectively translate what was in their hearts, minds, and ears in a way that would be felt in the most monumental earth-shattering experiences with their music.

This is Opencloud.
