This is a lot like a perfected version of The Gethering - "Always...". What a album to close their chapter of brutality with. This line up were a super group in their own right.

If rearranged, this album absolutely slays. Mikael should have kept the concept and added Isolation Years and Soldier of Fortune as non-conceptual songs at the end of the album. That's how I always listen to this masterpiece. Story songs first, non-story ballads last. Good stuff.

True Masterpiece! Each and every song's composition is genius, so that you can enjoy it returning to it again and again, like your favorite timeless movie. It can suddenly start playing in your head even if you haven't listened to it for a few years, making you to want to listen the whole album one more time. One of my favorite albums of all time, definitely!

Mikael purposefully made it a loose concept because Isolation Years didn't follow the story but he liked the song so much he decided to keep it on the album, and I'm glad he did. Honestly, that's part of what I love about this album, because the story is up to your interpretation and you can listen to the songs in whatever order you want if it makes more sense to you concept wise.

This album is excellent Every song has it points. Excellent. I love how heavy it is and the clearing.

I think I only just today realised why people love this as much as Blackwater Park, Still Life, & My Arms, Your Hearse. I still think "The Grand Conjuration" is a couple minutes too long (yes, I love that riff too, but a ten-minute song should change things up more), but other than that, this is basically a perfect album. It's a shame Opeth will probably never make another album like their late '90s and '00s material.

I don't listen to Opeth at all but the song Reverie/Harlequin Forest has been blowing up my mind for already 7 years
