Biography
OrBeat Project was a 2009 band by Indonesian drummer Andrey Chilling. In 2007 Andrey Chilling started to make his own project, OrBeat, his long-awaited ideal project, where he himself created, leads, directs, and manages the band, while also producing and compose the songs for it, featuring supporting musicians/artists.
From the start Andrey has had many support building this project, first off by long time friend Edmond K (Cozy Republic) as Keyboardist, and along the way other friends such as Danar (Souljah) as Vocalist/Song Writer, Clara (Cliva) as Lead Vocalist, and Mistah (Diplomats) as Rapper/Lyric Writer, when they had the chance to preform in events such as Sundaze dan JavaJazz 08 & 09, and rank #1 in HardRock FM Dance Chart for a couple of months. In the process Andrey decided to develop OrBeat’s concept from Live PA where most sounds was computerized, to a more solid live band format where he can express his music vision more freely.
So in 2009, Andrey begin to expand his project into OrBeat Project, a more live band format, with he himself still the mastermind of the whole project and on the Drum Section, in collaboration with DJ Mori (X2 Dj Resident) on the Guitar, Kevin (ex-Reborn by Indra Lesmana) in Trumpet, Fanny (Cozy Republic) on Bass Guitar, Michael (Indonesian Idol backup player) on the Keyboard, and on the vocals still Mistah (Diplomats) as Rapper, Witania, Ade Fabiola, and Davina as Lead/Background Vocal. In Soulnation 08 and Java Jazz 09, OrBeat Project also had the chance to preform with special guest star Abdul - Vocals and Ivan K (SLANK) - Bass Guitar. With this new solid team format, a collaboration of talented musicians, Andrey hopes to better express his music vision in introducing a new genre of Nu Jazz/Funk whose mixture of sounds revolved around hip hop beats, funk and jazz elements put together in one unique & fresh harmony.
Andrey Chilling had started off his career as a drummer professionally hired by Oppie Andaresta and Imanez as a session player, then joined a band called Flowers with former Slank band member Bongky for a couple of years. In 2000 he joined a pop jazz group Bunglon which won the award for “Best Jazz Band” by the Indonesian TV station SCTV. During this time Andrey also produced some solo projects for Indonesian Artists such as Artidewi and Abdul.
Next he became part of DJ Adhe Live PA whose members included DJ Adhe, Derry (ex Bunglon), and Andrey himself who played percussion and Emceed. In 2005 DJ Adhe Live PA won 1st place for Asia Pacific in the “Heineken Thirst DJ Competition" and went on for the Heineken Thirst Global Final to represent Asia Pacific in Capetown, South Africa.
Andrey Chilling passed away in a car accident at August 30th 2009, Bandung, Indonesia. May he Rest In Peace.
