Biography

PAOLO FEDREGHINI - Born in Milan 36 years ago, Paolo Fedreghini got infected by his father’s passion for music and when he was only five years old, he spent much time listening to music and trying to play keyboards. After two years of lessons of Classic piano, his interest in rock and soul pushed him in other directions. His passion for funk and disco music opened for him the doors of a small town radio station, where he hosted a black and funk music show. His activity as a DJ in a more important radio, in discotheques and private parties further widened Paolo’s knowledge of music and he kept investing all his savings in the purchase of records and keyboards, that enabled him to compose music for himself and his friends. In the mid-Eighties, he formed a funk band (Flower Funk Band), whose sound was heavily contaminated with drum and percussion rhythms, with the addition of horns, rhythm guitar and, of course, the Fender Rhodes that Paolo is still using in his productions. With the advent of the Nineties, he left the band, because he wished to deepen his knowledge of piano. His teacher was Marco Bianchi, highly esteemed pianist on the Italian jazz scene. Very soon, a sincere friendship is born, strengthened by their love of music and shared philosophies.

Today, Paolo Fedreghini is artistically engaged in different directions: record productions for Schema Records, music consultancy for the Mediaset Group, scoring of films, documentaries and TV shows, audio applications for painting/art/photography exhibitions, as well as nights as a DJ and live concerts. Among the productions that see him side by side with Marco Bianchi, there’s an album titled “Officine”, released on Milano 2000, a single that revisits Sahib Shihab’s song “Please Don’t Leave, that was successful in clubs and was included into a number of compilations, among which the prestigious “Hotel Costes Vol. 7”. MARCO BIANCHI - At a very young age, Marco Bianchi started playing the organ that his father gave him and he soon started to take private piano lessons, gaining later admission to the Giuseppe Verdi conservatory in Milan. Even as a young boy, he enjoys composing and often, in occasion of the school essays, he is encouraged by his teachers to play, besides the classic repertoire, his own compositions. At the end of his formal education, he deepens his knowledge of different music cultures, which make him appreciate and love American music and especially jazz, so that in him coexist music of European and of Afro-American origin. His activity is currently divided among teaching, live concerts and production of different genres, that often see him involved as arranger.

In a recent interview for the Italian magazine Jazz-It, Marco Bianchi stated that the study of piano has become his own personal discipline, in which the sum of all technical skills and the music rules get progressively and naturally abandoned, because new horizons, new illuminations are met, whose reason derives just fro the previously acquired knowledge. This ongoing process improves one’s spiritual personality and through it a closer union with one’s own essence. This is a personal concept bound to one’s own spiritual path but that also emphasizes the deep research in his own self that is the main spur in Marco Bianchi’s artistic career.

The great pianists that influenced Marco are numerous and among them we should mention Hank Jones, Tommy Flanaghan, Winton Kelly, Red Garland, Bud Powell and the more recent Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock. He worked with many musicians from Italy and abroad, such as: Luca Jurman, Gigi Cifarelli, Renato Daiello, Laura Fedele, Irene Grandi, Tullio De Piscopo, Maxx Furian, Paolo Scocca, Silvio Verdi, Giorgio Di Tullio, Stefano Colnaghi, Laura Pausini, Steve Smith, Thomas Moekle and many more.

Important activities: co-founder with Giorgio Di Tullio of the Centro Formazione Musica di Corsico (Music Formation center of Corsico, near Milan). Seminars, concerts, teaching, composition, arrangements and production in different music scenes. Discography: three albums with Everest (a band he co-founded), 1 Everest, 2 Around The time, 3 Dialoghi ed impressioni; with the band Soggetti a Rischio (a.k.a. Subjects) he released two albums, 1 Soggetti a rischio and 2 Subjects; with Paolo fedreghini he realesed the album Officine on Miolano 2000; under the moniker Furian, Bianchi, Scoca the album Japanes era was recently released.
