I've never loved and appreciated Pat's music more than I have since beginning an actual serious attempt to sober up and get my shit together. Side note, if there's anyone reading this who's also dealing with addiction problems and wants some advice from someone finally making legitimate progress towards getting clean, I do have a little bit that I can actually say based on my own personal experiences. Take it all one day at a time, try to be kind to yourself if/when you inevitably relapse or feel like you fucked things up somehow, and don't let yourself give up. I'm definitely not an expert or anything and I still have a long way to go, but I'm just hopeful that some of my rambling will actually be able to help someone in some way.

"I can hear you from a dozen states away Shivering through a dope sick morning of No money left and nothing else to steal Lord only knows that I’ve had my share Cause there were years when I was ready to die But it’s only been recently that I’ve been willing to live" Pat The Poet.

I try to keep up with everything I know I should do but then I'll fall to pieces anyway.

I don't believe that pat has ever said anything about trying to be straight edge. As far as I'm aware, his reason for entering the drug treatment program was that he was tired of misery and death. He's an amazing guy, and I would hate to have his story turned from one of a guy who had the insight to see the faults in himself and actively deal with them into a story about becoming a member of some ill conceived social movement. As Jonny Hobo, his music was all about personal freedom, and as pat the bunny it's all about personal responsibility. I hope when he gets out of treatment that he continues to travel and to spread that message, because he does it far better than anyone else I've ever heard.
