"Winner In You" is LaBelle's eigth studio album. It was issued on MCA Records on April 28, 1986. This became her breakthrough album that soliditfied her status as a Pop superstar. The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. "It remains her only album to date to be certified Platinum. The "Winner In You" includes the hit singles "On My Own" with Michael McDonald (#1 Pop, #1 R&B, #2 A/C & #2 UK Pop), "Oh, People" (#27 Pop & #7 R&B), "Kiss The Pain Away" (#13 R&B) and "Something Special (Is Gonna Happen Tonight" (#50 R&B & #10 Dance).
