@intubator if you are asking if Pete Seeger wrote it, he didn't and never claimed he did. It was first published in 194O's in a pamphlet edited by him, indirectly attributed to Zilphia Horton, probably written during labour disputes in the South in the 1930's by Louise Shropshire and very possibly inspired by a gospel hymn written at the turn of the century by Charles Albert Tindley that was popular among strikers at that time. Like many songs popularised by Seeger, it has probably been translated into just about every language out there.

the struggle is long and hard, and along the way there are minor victories. Viva Pete Seeger on his 90th birthday!

Deep in my heart, I do believe, we shall overcome someday. How can anyone stand to keep living without believing, deep in their heart? Thank you Pete! & CPUSA
