Old Town" was released by Thin Lizzy frontman Philip Lynott as part of his 1982 self-titled solo album, The Philip Lynott Album. The recording now sounds rather dated - featuring synthetic drums, thin EQ and an over-fussy arrangement - but the strength of the melody and lyric shines through. Phil Lynott was a gifted melodicist and this track is a good example of the auld rake at his bittersweet best. The track was the first record to be officially played on Irish legal Independent Radio. It was also the first song played by Dublin's Capital Radio 104.4 (now known as FM104) on its launch day (20 July 1989). The Corrs did a typically insipid cover of the track sometime in the '90's - even they couldn't destroy its basic strength!
