Biography

Philanthrope is a chillhop producer based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He began releasing music in 2015. In his creative process, Philanthrope emphasizes the importance of maintaining a continuous flow of ideas and avoiding breaks when feeling inspired. He follows a "trial and error" approach, experimenting with different sounds and techniques. When creating instrumentals, he focuses on building a foundation of drums and a main melody, gradually adding layers of additional sounds. When collaborating with vocalists, he adapts the beats to provide a simple yet engaging backdrop.

Philanthrope's breakthrough came with the release of his full-length album, "Clockwork," in August 2017. The album features fifteen songs and includes collaborations with artists such as DRWN., Tusken, Mono:Massive, Tesk, and Fujistu. The soundscape of the album is combining elements of horn-heavy jazz with hip-hop, trip-hop, and soul.

Philanthrope has collaborated with producer Devaloop and rapper Omaure, in addition to releasing a significant collection of solo works. His music was featured on several of the Chillhop's Essentials compilations.

Originally from Innsbruck, Austria, Philanthrope drew inspiration from living in a city with limited musical activity. In 2018, he relocated to Rotterdam to work alongside the Chillhop family, further enhancing his productivity and aligning his music with their shared vision.

As the Head of A&R at Chillhop Music, Philanthrope collaborates with talented artists within the chillhop beat-making scene, including mommy, Kyle McEvoy, Sleepy Fish, Ian Ewing, Monma, Yasper, No Spirit, Moods, and DRWN. In June 2018, he released his album "Waking Dreams," which features his signature jazzy, piano-driven compositions. The album serves as a natural progression from "Clockwork," providing a relaxed and contemplative listening experience. In addition to his role as a producer, Philanthrope contributes kalimba, piano, and synth elements on the album.

His position as an artist and his respect among fellow musicians enable him to offer effective feedback and constructive criticism. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining high-quality standards to cultivate a loyal fan base and stay relevant in the industry.

Beyond music, Philanthrope has diverse interests, including skateboarding, movies, and vinyl collecting. While his primary focus lies in beats and jazz, he considers himself a record collector with a particular passion for instrumental hip-hop. His interest in house music has also contributed to the growth of his record collection.

Looking ahead, Philanthrope plans to complete ongoing projects, including collaborations with Kupla and Benaddict.
