This sounds alot like Frank Zappa and the Mother's of Invention's sound. Very cool. Zappa was inducted in to the Rock -n- Roll Hall of Fame and the Jazz Hall of Fame. These guy's could be as well. Great jam.

Great jam band in a long line probably beginning with Grateful Dead. Getting harder to find so soak up all you can while it lasts.

To holly: Phish is really in their own genre but if you had to compare them (or pin their roots to something) it would have to be with Jazz. Trey uses very complex musical ideas and passages which typically only show up in classical and jazz music.

the grateful dead and phish are completely different from Dave Matthews. it's really pointless to compare them.
