Biography
The roots of Phobic date back to 2002, when Los Angeles-based guitarist/vocalist/producer Steve Turzo and guitarist Matt Leo first collaborated to form the electronic rock group, OLYMPIC DAY. The band proved short-lived and within a year, Leo left Los Angeles to pursue other interests in Philadelphia, Turzo and Leo's home town. :Over the next two years, Turzo continued to satisfy creative urges by means of pursuing an electronic yet melodic rock-based solo project entitled PHOBIC - .
The songs began to take chiseled shape and form a sound reminiscent of Depeche Mode; outwardly synthetic with an organic pop music heart. Emotionally inspired, the considerably dark but universally gripping lyrical content seemed a natural addendum to the chilling sound-scape. :Initially, all singing, song-writing, and production was carried out by Turzo, but in 2004 long time friend Ethan Iobst moved to Los Angeles to add new dimensions to the band. A guitar virtuoso and naturally gifted musician, Iobst contributed a more organic, approachable element to the mix. Discovering Ethan's vocal talent unbeknownst to either member, the duo settled that both would contribute lead vocals to their songs. The decision to have two lead singers and songwriters planted seeds that would soon come to fruition. With two distinct voices on the front line, vocals could be form-fit to the key of the song, allowing for more natural performances and hypnotically captivating hooks.
