“All I Think About Now” is written from the perspective of Black Francis, serving as an apology and thank you letter to Kim Deal regarding her time in the band and the events that led to her departure from the band in 2013. The looping guitar riff and background female vocals elicit a similar sound to that of the band’s 1988 Surfer Rosa track “Where is my Mind.” This is a nod to the integral role Deal played in the band as her vocals on that track are arguably the most famous element of the band’s discography. The lyrics here lamenting the direction Francis' and Deal’s relationship took are uncharacteristically straight-forward for the Pixies given Francis' penchant for abstraction.
In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Black Francis has said of the song “When you look back fondly in a poignant kind of way, you have a lot of ups and downs mixed together. I guess that’s what it’s about. It’s about regret. It’s about good memories. It’s about bad memories. It’s about if … if …”
