MUSIC is the third studio album from Playboi Carti, the nearly 5 year follow up to his last album Whole Lotta Red, which released on December 25th, 2020. It released March 14th, 2025.

The album's title was first teased in an April 2022 XXL interview, stating he would simply call his album MUSIC for the moment, though this title would continue to be used. In more recent material the name "I AM MUSIC" would be adopted, which would later be confirmed to be the official title of the album according to a Billboard interview that took place in June of 2024. Carti also stated in this interview that the album will be released by the end of the year, which did not end up happening.

On Friday, November 3rd, 2023, German arts and culture magazine Numéro Berlin published a new interview with Playboi Carti to give his fans a little insight into the creative process behind the album he was working on. He describes how 3 months were spent recording MUSIC in a cave and what specific sounds came out of those sessions.

"I really try to stay out my head, I try to stay out my phone and I just try to lock in," Playboi Carti tells Numéro Berlin regarding his current musical mind state. "I'm in my surroundings. I've been recording in Paris. I love Paris. I was recording in a cave for like three months and all the music that came out of that is just chaotic and crazy."

MUSIC was originally supported by 6 singles, those being "DIFFERENT DAY”, "2024”, "H00DBYAIR”, "BACKR00MS (feat. Travis Scott)”, "EVILJ0RDAN”, and "KETAMINE”. All of which were released via social media platforms Instagram and YouTube as appose to traditional DSPs such as Spotify. Upon the album's release, "K POP" (new name for "KETAMINE"), "EVIL J0RDAN", and "HBA" (shortened name for "H00DBYAIR") would officially be featured in the tracklist. "DIFFERENT DAY" was also made available in a separate "v1" copy of the album found on Carti's website, and 2024 was added to “v2”. He additionally release the song FOMDJ (Fuck on my DJ) to “v3”

On September 12th, 2024, Carti would post of a new announcement voiced by Blackhaine, a backup dancer at Carti's major shows that is known more recently for announcing Carti's singles for Music a few hours before they drop. A few hours later, at 9:30 PM EST, Playboi Carti dropped exclusive pre-order merch containing shirts, hoodies, a digital album, and boxsets on his website planned to ship on or before April 18th, 2025 for Music, the official deadline for his upcoming album. On midnight of September 13th, 2024, after a whole day of teasing and subliminal messages, All Red, the official lead single for Music, officially released. The date it dropped holds a lot of significance for 3 reasons. First, it's his birthday. Second, it's Friday The 13th. Third, he posted a picture on his Opium Instagram account and his Creative Director/Tattoo Artists' Instagram story, SEXISDEATH, with a picture of him wearing a Hardaway Jersey (1), and an Iverson Jersey (3). All Red is heavily regarded by fans, and has been being hyped up by fans and Carti himself since the song was recorded back in February of 2022, especially as of lately, with Carti wearing multiple different custom "All Red" hats with Music subliminal messages written across it.
