Formed in Recife (PE, Brazil) in the 70's, was the most important group to create a form of brazilian chamber music with folk roots.

Tied to the Armorial Movement of Ariano Suassuna, that proposed a dialog between the folkloric medieval songs and the creative and interpretative pratices of the northeast of Brazil, the group was composed by a rabeca (rudimentar form of violin), pífano (a kind of flute), country guitar, guitar and zabumba (a percurssive instrument), as by violin, viola and flute.

The groups components were Antônio José Madureira, Egildo Vieira do Nascimento, Antonio Nóbrega, Fernando Torres Barbosa e Edison Eulálio Cabral.

They recorded four LPs before the group disbanded, in 1980.

Antônio Nóbrega followed a single carreer, and his work keeps deep ties with the Armorial Movement.

By the end of the 90's, a new group formed performing a work close with that of the Quinteto Armorial. It is called Quarteto Romançal and its artistical director, Antônio José Madureira, was a member of Quinteto Armorial.
