Checking out RA for the first time and I like 'em! I'm listening to the From One album. I should have checked them over 20 years ago!

I remember RA was around FYE or whatever music record store I used to wander in back in the 2000s. Are they worth checking out?

My favorite RA band is the one that is RA, not other RA bands that are listed here.

I doubt we'll ever agree on which group should be in the image for common band names like these, but we could at least all strive to pick a photo that's framed properly for that band photo circle, and preferably in black & white because that's kinda become the standard across last.fm.

RA was the side project of Andrei Rusu (aka Vlad Dracul), member of the German symphonic black metal band Agathodaimon and is considered a continuation of his other early project Drusus (1995-1998). RA was created because of Andrei's love to the Romanian poetry and his search for something deeper to mirror these poetic aspects. As a result the music was created to suit the verses and not vice versa as he was normally did with Agathodaimon. Some of the lyrics were written by the Romantic poet, novelist and journalist Mihai Eminescu (1850 – 1889), that he is considered one of the most famous and influential Romanian poets. The project released two albums with "Geniu Pustiu" being the first one in 1999 and "Sinnocence" in 2001 being the last. "Geniu Pustiu" also features Dan Byron on vocals (guest vocalist on "Higher Art Of Rebellion" of Agathodaimon).

Sahaj Ticotin has the world record for male vocalists holding a B note...on a track that also mashes up Ludakris lyrics that mention a Shaq attack. That's fucking whacked haha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjpUSZAG8-U&feature=youtu.be http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/ludacris/getback.html

I was very disappointed with Critical Mass. Mainly Sahaj's voice. It's lacking the power they had particularly on the record Duality. That was really their best album. Critical Mass just didn't meet the mark. Musically it was still Ra but vocally it was disappointing.

I feel like these guys have almost lost their edge a bit, but made up for it in band maturity. Their songs aren't as driving and soaring on Critical Mass, but their songs have a much better flow to them, better builds, and it just comes across as less impulsive of a release. I like the matured sound, but I kind of miss the overly soaring, overly driving choruses of Black Sun. Still, I think they're a very solid band.

I would say no, and now that I've listened to the album cover to cover at least 5 times. I do like the album overall, but there are some songs that just aren't very good. Whether they tried something a little different, or added things to some songs that just didn't work. Overall just a little disappointing, only because black sun, from one, and duality were altogether great albums. On the other hand, the black sheep album.... wow talk about garbage.

You guys don't think you're being a little brash judging the album after just a day or two? I really didn't like "Black Sun" very much at all (Black Sheep was just a collection of demos) I think this sounds like the best stuff since From One and Duality at least. It's pretty good, I've never ranked Ra as a favorite band or anything but always have liked and respected Sahaj's song-writing skills. There's some creative elements in this record, some different spices. I'd give it like a 7/10, pretty good for an album that I wasn't even aware was coming out until about a month ago.

After listening to the Critical Mass album all the way through I would have to agree with YGT_BCRich. There are some brights spots in this album with some good songs, but there are a fair share of songs I just didn't like too much. Overall not bad, but not great.

Heard Rectifier back in 2004 on a Music Choice channel. Listened to Ra for the first time in 8 years last night. Brings back so many memories. Kick ass band.
