Read as a diary of an inmate at the Carandiru prison in October '92 – the time of the penitentiary massacre, which led to the official death of 111 inmates –, "Diário de um Detento" was written by Mano Brown, inspired by the texts of a former Carandiru prisoner. In the lyrics, the narrator tells the day-to-day life in prison, until the "big day", October 2nd, when the prisoners revolt, which led to the aforementioned massacre. Ending the song a day after the event, with the writer describing that people will not believe him, because he is a "dehumanized" person.
