This should be compulsory in all American schools, especially in Obama's America. It's interesting that because Randy Newman is of a far more complex political make-up than most Left-Wingers/liberals/whatever the Hell he is, this is a far more complex view of working people's views than most attain.

Recently read that "Mr. President" is a funny personal plea to the disgraced Nixon to have pity on the working man while inumerating Nixon's crimes and recounting his mental unbalance. Two sides.

Oh, Randy, here you go, confusing me again with your ambiguous tone. I feel like there's an element of contempt for the narrator's special pleading, but he's smart enough to know what he's doing and to know that Mr. President doesn't much give a damn. And the music pumps up the lyrics with just enough drive and punch to give the narrator's plaint some resonance. Still, he can't quite make it from a whiny tone to an angry one. Don't beg, man! Demand what you need! We're pulling for you; now pull for yourself.
