Farewell to the legendary Hugh McDonald who recently fought a brave battle against cancer. The Diamantina Drover is one of the finest examples of songwriting you could hope to show another music lover and that's Hugh's song, Hugh's voice. He was much more than that obviously, but for most folks, that will endure as the crown jewel of his musical legacy. A fine legacy it is. 2016 can fold it's tent and go home, this has been a brutal year for music lovers of all stripes. Goodbye and rest easy, Hugh. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your music. "...the battlers don't give up, it's written on their hands and in their eyes, the spirit of the land survives. "

My mum worked at 4ZZZ in Brisbane when I was a little kid, then we moved to Adelaide... Redgum is one of my earliest identifiable musical memories.

Second the call for a Paul Kelly cover of Gladstone Pier. That would be something to hear.

should be a tribute album or something done. the quality of the songwriting is really let down by the dated production on all but Virgin Ground (or Caught in the Act, which is just dated by the banter). can imagine Paul Kelly doing Gladstone Pier (or One More Boring Night in Adelaide).

folk punk is close tag. it's definitely folk with a hard, ocka, piss-take, political edge.

Redgum, great folk rock with political statements which even apply now (more so sometimes just different people than mentioned). Ohh and I have seen worse tags than folk punk I've seen something about being a sexy something and this is my list... that is a real bad tag.
