Strings of Life is regarded as one of the earliest Electronic Dance Music tracks. Dropped in May of 1987, Derrick May (aka MayDay, Rhythm is Rhythm) explored the four-on-the-floor beat introducing strings and synthesizers, along with a progressive piano riff that is still prominent in modern day EDM. Strings of Life is one of the earliest tracks in the genre of Detroit techno, a genre that paved the way for modern day house music. Derrick May is one of the original 3 Detroit techno artists (also called the Belleville Three) who grew up in a small suburb outside of Detroit in the early 80's. Electro producer, Juan Atkins and techno pioneer, Kevin Saunderson all attended Belleville High and shared their influence to establish the foundation of Electronic Dance Music.
