Biography

Rickey Dickens hails from Central Florida to bring us his first full length album, Hangin' On after paying his dues for over 15 years in Florida, the southwest US and Europe. On this 11 song CD he is accompanied by players from acts like The Bellamy Brothers, JJ Grey and Mofro, Sam Rivers Orchestra, and Asleep at the Wheel among many others.

Dickens says he is "trying to revive the honky tonk and country music sounds from the mid to late 70's that is disappearing from our public Country airwaves."

On his new album, Hangin' On, he writes original yet classic stories about love lost, self realization, hard times, death, ghosts, pawn shops, and a favorite past-time of millions of men, women, and children all over the world; fishing. Oh and just for good measure, the last track is a truely classic cover song written by the great John Hiatt called "Train to Birmingham."

Rickey's baritone voice is reminiscent of classic country greats like Waylon Jennings, Cal Smith, Don Williams, and Junior Brown, with a hint of the hard edged voice of Johnny Cash.

If you like hard hitting songs that you can relate to, backed by a driving bass, snappy drums, beautiful Fiddle, heart-wrenching pedal steel, classic 70's lead guitar, hard hitting harmonica, and old time honky tonk piano; then you've found the right record. Gas up your truck, pop it in the CD player and head down the highway for over 33 minutes of great new music with a classic feel.

"With a voice that squeezes Johnny Cash’s emotional lilt through a decade of modern-rock radio, Dickens sings with a style that’s resonant and expressive, but never overbearing." Orlando Weekly, June 2003
