Biography

RoBo-RoBBIe is an American experimental rapper formed in Gainesville, Florida, United States in 2010. The artist generally is solo with guest appearances from local and online associates. The artist currently consists of Robbie G. and generally using beats and music found online through upcoming artists. Later in 2010, RoBo-R0BBIe starting experimenting in his own beats and those of online associates. The artist released his first album, “That's What I Do (In dat Club) ” on September 4, 2010. He also produced a MixTape for fans to download on his Facebook fan-page in November of 2010.

His style has been variously classified as rap, hip-hop, alternative and experimental, but is most often considered to be the early 80s-style Skating Rink music style that ushered in the synth pop of the 1980s, along with other newer acts such as Lil' Wayne and Lady Gaga.

RoBo-RoBBIe’s music and stage show mingle kitsch karaoke-style themes, eccentric humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary, often dealing with the concept of Pop-culture, in sometimes-discordant pop songs that often feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures.

His work has been influenced by subsequent popular music, particularly Auto-Tune, rap, alternative and electronic music. He created some memorable music videos popular within his local fan-base.

The name “RoBo-RoBBIe” comes from the concept of the recent explosion of Auto-Tuning with electronic sounds produced for added vocal effects in music such as Lady Gaga, Lil' Wayne, and T-Pain. This idea was developed as a joke on his Facebook profile updates as early as the early summer of 2010, with no music accompanying his Auto-Tune vocals. The artist created a number of short pieces in the vein of Auto-Tuning status updates. At this time, RoBo-RoBBIe had also performed many karaoke stage performances at local bars and restaurants. He worked with friends during late summer to put together a few home-made karaoke cd's and getting his auto-tuning equipment running. Practicing Auto-Tuning with status updates and friends karaoke'ing in his home, which would later inspire the song “That's What I Do (In dat Club)”.

The pivotal moment for the formation of RoBo-RoBBIe was the iPhone application, "I Am T-Pain", when he created the first couple full-length songs, many being covers on the karaoke-style app. RoBo-RoBBIe knew that his ability to freestyle was evident and his "pure rediculosity" was getting a overwhelmingly positive response from friends. At this moment, he claims he changed the idea of RoBo-RoBBIe into a serious concept.

The first form of RoBo-RoBBIe was the single “Gimme ur Stuff” which was posted on Facebook using an application DivShare for file sharing, so that the MP3 was public. It included him free-styling, as well as his own amateur beat created on his computer. This performance was widely accepted as an entertaining free-style as opposed to his previous status updates and was included on the premier album That's What I Do (In dat Club) . This album was followed by other subsequent new songs updated on his Facebook fan-page, until he finally released a fan-only downloadable Mixtape simply called "MixTape 2", also through the file sharing application. RoBo-RoBBIe has performed in-home events, mostly including karaoke, and debuting his album publicly at various local bars and restaurants in later 2010.
