Rob van Bavel (1965) is a pianist, teacher, composer and arranger. He graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1987 with the highest distinction and won several prizes, including second prize at the first Thelonious Monk Jazzpiano Competition in Washington DC, soloist prizes in Germany and Belgium, the Wessel Ilcken Prize and an Edison for the CD Rob van Bavel Trio. As a sideman and band leader he has released more than hodnerd CDs and toured throughout Europe, Canada, USA, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea and Siberia. He has performed extensively with greats such as Woody Shaw, Randy Brecker, Johnny Griffin, Gary Willis and others. He teaches at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Amsterdam and has given masterclasses in South Korea, Liechtenstein, Spain and the Netherlands.
