This introduced me to Jeff Beck’s playing. It’s a better use of a famous lead guitarist than on Pros & Cons, even though he’s not every song. Roger described watching him play those parts as a “religious experience”, and I couldn’t blame him for feeling that way because of how music can provide us with those experiences even more then in the traditional methods of prayer. It all fits with the theme of “What God Wants”, and the album as a whole that it takes on this epic shape to make the points it still does 30 years later.

Totally agree. I am yet to listen to Jeff Beck's legacy some time in the (near) future, but here his parts are so flawless and vivid that you can't help but notice them as something special (I like "What God Wants, part 3" especially in this regard). And these solos fit the style of the album perfectly, would also agree on this 100%.

@ TheFatChocobo, I understand your sentiment, but I actually feel good listening to the album. The songs are amazing and the political sadness in the words are comforting too, because it means I'm not alone in feeling this

One of the most uncomfortable albums ever made. I mean, you put this thing on and there's *no way* you're gonna feel good for the next hour and thirteen minutes. So powerful and so bleak! Definitely a tremendous achievement.

I agree with the people who say that Amused to Death isn't better than A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell, but is undeniable (at least for me) that this album is a fucking MASTERPIECE! And I don't understand why so much people keep reducing the qualitie of the first Pink Floyd's album without Roger Waters... Dogs of War, Learning to Fly, Sorrow, Yet Another Movie, the two parts of A New Machine and many other songs don't represent nothing to any of you?!

You'd be hard pressed to find an album that is and will remain as universal as Amused to Death.

It's the sort of album that would usually tempt me to say "a musician only comes up with anything this quality once in their life," but under the circumstances I rather hope this not to be the case... Since it's release date back in 1992, its been with me. The memories, the history, the soundtrack to my youth. I owe a lot to this album...

http://www.rogerwaters.org/atdtrivia.html will fill you in on some of the questions this album prompts, such as 'what the hell does "And we all like the bit when you take The jeans from the refridgerator and Then the bad guy gets hit" mean?' but what can not be answered by any website is the following question: How the HELL does Waters do it?! ...and Amused > > Pros & Cons > Radio Kaos > Division Bell

If you ask me, this is Waters' very finest accomplishment, with only "The Wall" coming close to matching it. You know an album is a masterpiece when it actually changes the way you think about the world. This album did. In fact, the lyrics of this album changed my way of thinking more than any book ever could. That goes to show how great a writer Waters is. As for Pink Floyd, as far as I'm concerned their last album was "Meddle." Everything from "Dark Side" onwards was almost entirely Waters' work. Of course, he doesn't get nearly as much recognition as he deserves thanks to David Gilmour robbing the name Waters rightfully earned. However, in my mind, this album officially answers the question "Which One's Pink?"

I felt pretty much the same. Didn't think much of it at first, but I started to notice things after the second listen that really made it stand out as a good album to me. The album has some of my favourite work from Jeff Beck on there too.

Roger!! Please don't die! Not for a while anyway. But I guess you gotta go sometime. Everyone has to. Make another album first though (but not opera..not that there's anything wrong with it you understand, but one like amused to death would be really great).
