So, has this "supermarket life" gotten worse or better since this album was released?

Perfection. This song perfectly describes our society right now and what have we done and what's happening to us. A perfect summary of Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death" (Specifically the last chapter). The lyrics are godlike. "They repeated every test/They checked out all the data on their lists/And then the alien anthropologists/Admitted they were still perplexed/But on eliminating every other reason/For our sad demise/They logged the only explanation left/This species has amused itself to death" just wow. Roger Waters is the best lyricist alive in my opinion

I suppose prophets come & go in different guises. John the Baptist's role was much different to Jesus and some songwriters are very direct whilst others are more subtle

It's strange to call Roger's songs "prophetic", as throughout the years he was describing characteristics, tendencies or possibilities of society researched and documented innumerable times. "Amused to Death" itself is inspired by "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman. ...Which doesn't take away the value of expressing particular ideas artistically, causing emotional resonance and raising awareness... to some extent. This album and this song accomplish this relative 'task' and go beyond only that.

Saw "The Wall" back in October in St. Louis...the best show I've ever seen. Roger, at 67, puts other performers to shame. And yes, regrettably, I believe Roger is a prophet in regards to what this world will/has become unless each one of uses our voices.
