Biography

Rouhangeze’s demo album ‘alfa’ was completed in Feb 2009. It is a ‘home studio project’ comprising 10 completely original tracks with a commercial Pop/Lounge/Jazz sound. Adam Helal from ID Audio Studios in London said ‘I think Summer Fantasy is a fantastic song with great hit potential, it would also lend itself to a dance version’, while Mark Hutchinson of Rooksmere Studio in Northamptonshire enthused, ‘I really like Concrete Jungle, I couldn’t help getting ‘Jiggy’ to that one!’. Upon hearing her live for the first time Bobby of Sylvia Young’s Stage School remarked ‘Rouhangeze is a very good singer with a nice sounding voice. She also has the looks to be in a ‘girl band’. The combination of these things makes her something quite special.’

Rouhangeze is a 21 year old singer/songwriter from the Island of Mauritius. She showed her talent as a vocalist from a very early age and began performing at shows within the Bahai religious community at 5yrs. A few years later at Primary School her Headmaster encouraged her to enter a singing contest being held by the Conservatoire Francois Mitterand. Despite her not being a student at the Conservatoire and having no formal training she won and an artiste was born!

From the age of sixteen Rouhangeze left school to pursue her singing career professionally. She worked the ‘hotel & bar circuit’, on cruise ships, and as a studio vocalist on several albums being produced in Mauritius. She is well known in her country having made numerous appearances on TV, Radio and in the press. She also received stunning reviews in the French overseas territory of La Reunion following the release of Nostalgies Des Iles by Pipo Nairac. Her fresh interpretation of the traditional folk song ‘Petite Fleur Aimee’ was hailed as ‘the most beautiful ever heard’ (Weekend Dimanche 30.03.08).

Rouhangeze considers that she is lucky to have had the opportunity to sing with some of the best musicians in the Indian Ocean. Her band comprising Steve, Patrick, Jocelyn and Christophe are world class performers with many years professional experience. Her personal highlights include jamming with world famous bass player Linley Marthe, French Jazz/Rock drummer Francis Lassus, and singing backing vocals for Mauritian songwriter Christophe Rey at the launch of his new album. Mauritian blues guitar legend Eric Triton (Universal), an icon from her childhood and now a personal friend remarked, ‘Rouhangeze has great potential as a singer/songwriter. If the right opportunity came up then I would work with her.’

From September 2009 Rouhangeze will be resident in the UK. She hopes to gain further professional experience as a session vocalist and promote her own work to Labels, Management Companies, and Publishers.
