how is this Royce da 5'9" different from this Royce Da 5'9''. are they really tripping about a capital letter?

I like Royce but outside of Dopeman, I didn't really enjoy much from The Allegory. To be honest, I was kinda surprised it got a Grammy nomination over some other great albums (Mac Miller, Conway the Machine and Run the Jewels come to mind).

My favorite album is Death is Certain. The Allegory is pretty good, I'm already feeling two songs off there, On The Block and Overcomer. This is the best I've heard from Royce in a while since Independents Day...Chips on Pistons and Paranoia.

I would love royce so much more and think he was so much woker if he didnt resort to Homophobic slurs throughout the album though. Like its weird to hear him do so many songs about the subtle methods and effects of prejudice but then do the same thing to that group :/

On the one hand, I think (sigh) homophobia is kinda a given for old school rappers, I mean, even Killer Mike had a super homophobic line I found on an old feature of his. You take the good with the bad, or you don't. On the OTHER, I think you're giving a rather surface read on the music at hand here. It's a concept album meant to largely embody perspectives, which it does truthfully. Randy Newman was able to write songs from the perspective of racists without being decried as a racist...similar idea here, if you ask me. Beyond that, I think any line here that could be viewed as offensive in the area you charge it with has several layers to them. Happy to discuss that more, should ya feel the desire, drop by my page.

Interesting - I like that album but there's stuff I'd cut off it / some pandering to current sounds. I think this one benefits from the cohesive concept, and the production is real nice. I'd probably still consider Death is Certain his best, and I think Street Hop is underrated, but this is def a contender for me!

Looking forward to this new album. Logic just tweeted that his hardest feature ever is on it, and that it drops May 4th. https://twitter.com/Logic301/status/989875745022513163

For fuck's sake, why the lower case d in "da" all of a sudden? NO matter how u tag the tracks, last-fm won't stand for a nice figurative setup. Royce da 5'9" looks weaker & sloppier than Royce Da 5'9" (there's aesthetics to the inner relations of letters & symbols too, u know, I can deal with Smif-n-Wessun cause they do that themselves & it doesnt look as retarded), fix it, last.fm-people!
