Biography

"The throwback honkytonk tunes of Ruby Rae are darker than your usual singer-songwriter fare, with noir-ish and Southern gothic influenced lyrics.” – Washington Post

Ruby Rae currently resides in Brooklyn. She started as the side project of NYC-based pop-punk outfit The Ex-Debutantes in 2010. Her sound is alt-country with various influences: Loretta Lynn, The Cramps, Old 97's, and Mazzy Star among them.

Her debut Double Feature EP could easily be mistaken for a night at the local drive-in when rock 'n' roll still flirted with its honky-tonk roots. The songs "It Came from the Swamp" and "Invisible Man" showcase country-inflected instrumentation paired with heartfelt and sinister stories of guns, love, and loneliness.

Her second EP release, The Outskirts, continues to tighten and mine this signature sound, evoking exactly what its title suggests - the darker edges of people's souls and forgotten places. "Bad Behavior" and "The Shady Pines Motel" are musical and lyrical standouts.

In Fall 2012 Ruby Rae will be recording her first full-length album of all new material.
