Súl ad Astral began as the solo black metal project of Stephen Fortune at the tail-end of 2011. The first single, "Allure", was released on January 10th, 2012 through Bandcamp (http://suladastral.bandcamp.com/). Inspired by bands such as Lantlôs, Alcest and Explosions in the Sky, "Allure" builds up from a lonely single riff to unrelenting blast-beats and soaring leads and taking the listener through a journey of build-ups and climaxes. Upon hearing this song (posted on the Lantlôs Facebook page), Micahel Rumple took interest in the project, seeking to provide vocals to this concept. After demoing some material, the pair began to work on an album - with Stephen taking the guitar, bass and programming duties and Michael contributing the vocals and lyrics.

The selftitled 9-track album, "Súl ad Astral", marks the beginning of an exploration of this musical style for both Stephen and Michael; its intense nature only amplified by lyrical themes rooted in deep betrayal and introspection. The album was recorded with James Parsons by Stephen Fortune in New Zealand, with Michael Rumple providing vocals from the United States, and was released on the 20th of May. Michael Rumple officially joined the band as a full member after the release of this album. The release through Bandcamp saw Pest Productions taking an interest in releasing the album physically (CD Release TBA) and spurred a greater interest in the black metal community.

The duo are working on more material for 2013.
