Biography

Sam Lakeman (born Samuel Charles Lakeman on 6 November 1975) is an English folk musician, songwriter, and producer and co-owner of Charcoal Records. He was a member of folk bands The Lakeman Brothers and Equation.

Lakeman (piano/keyboards) started out performing with his brothers Seth Lakeman (fiddle) and Sean Lakeman (guitar) as The Lakeman Brothers. In 1995 the brothers formed the group Equation with singers Kathryn Roberts and Kate Rusby.

In 1996, after Cara Dillon replaced Kate Rusby in the summer of 1995, Lakeman and Dillon left Equation and the duo was known as Polar Star, though none of the recordings they are said to have under the name have been released.

Lakeman has gone on to produce, co-write, arrange and record Dillon's solo albums as well as featuring on piano, acoustic guitar, hammond organ, harmonium and percussion.
