Interesting how I mostly listened to them around 2013-2017. I forgot what they sound like, but I did listen to a very little bit of them in 2023. This year I will listen to them more!

So it's not just me then? I do like the new album, it has some standout moments, but every single song sounds almost identical with barely any exceptions. They used to have really varied albums so I'm not exactly sure what happened. It's not bad but after a decade I expected something more refined I guess...

Yeah, I also agree. It's a rock-solid album but after 10 years i expected something a little more...ambitious? I'm happy either way that another Scar Symmetry album exists, I suppose.

Yeah I agree. Especially since i've now had ample time with the new album. Phase I is superior in every way to Phase II IMO

Clean vocals are too low, mix is too muted. Adding some gain helps a little but it's still way too flat compared to part 1.

Agreed. Otherwise it's a great album.. though maybe missing that catchy hit song.

I am sorry to burst the bubble and be the hater/naysayer here, but imo Scorched Quadrant is not as good as the stuff Scar Symmetry usually deliver. The solo is amazing, beautiful, the clean vocals are solid, but apart from that, I don't love it. I love nearly everything by Scar Symmetry (ok, everything after Christians departure was not a 10/10, but close enough) and they were always one of the best bands out there, so kinda bummed, also the offputting alien on the cover and the lyrics are not enlightening/serving us (as much as the older albums) of what seems to be going on in this plane (look up e.g. gnosticism, transhumanism, simulation theory, astral realm experiences), but play into the agenda.

From Nuclear Blast Records (Youtube account): The band have completed work on their seventh full length album The Singularity (Phase II - Xenotaph), the long-awaited follow up to 2014's critically acclaimed The Singularity (Phase I - Neohumanity). Watch this space for more news...

Christian Älvestam is still one of the most underrated vocalists in modern metal. I kinda fell off the wagon with brain cancer years back and never followed them after his departure, I have crimbo money to spend so if someone can enlighten me on the good stuff to get, come at. PS I'm drunk so translation: what post Christian album should I go for? Thank yar

Pers says The Singularity (Phase II: Xenotaph) is coming in the near future. So 2022 would be a safe bet?

Pers was touring with Meshuggah, they should be working on something soon but who knows.

They are still touring at least.. or would be if it wasn't for covid. I hope we get phase II eventually or some other new album.

Sad news folks. It is with disappointment and a sense of disbelief that we announce the departure of Andreas Holma from Scar Symmetry just weeks before our tour of Finland, Japan and the Baltic Sea. Andreas recently informed us that he couldn't take part in these shows due to a scheduling conflict with another band that he's playing with, even though the Scar Symmetry shows (that he agreed to do!) have been planned for several months and he's had ample time to notify us about the situation. With this short notice, it's impossible for us to a secure a Japanese visa in time for a replacement bass player, as well as finding someone good enough to learn all the music and rehearse in just a few weeks. Also, since the flight tickets are non-refundable, we'd be forced to shell out for new ones.

Cancelling with just a few weeks notice without a very good reason is completely unacceptable to me, it puts the tour in jeopardy and makes the band look bad, and as a consequence Andreas is no longer a member of Scar Symmetry. For our upcoming shows we won't have a bass player, instead we will use a pre-recorded bass performance (by me) on backing tracks. It might not be optimal but it'll sound really good and we'll have a little bit of extra space on stage :)

It was fine, but not that special, really. I get, that it was produced by Per and Jonas and features Christian on a couple of songs, but the only tracks that stood out for me were The Armageddon Anthem and Attending Annihilation. The rest of the album is more of the same. Oh well, the search continues. Thanks for the recommendation, anyway.

I think you're gonna like Finnish myGrain if you're looking for space feel-ish melodeath; You know the drill, start from older releases and give them some room to grow :)
