Biography

    23 May 1984 (age 39)

"Matthew Centonze, born May 23, 1984, started writing music in 1999 at the age of 15, not unlike many other scene musicians of this generation. What differentiated Matt from his peers was his unmatched ability to reinvent himself and start something new whenever his sound was getting stale. While he has been influenced by a number of musicians, including BT, Hybrid, Telefon Tel Aviv, and Manual, he has always kept true to his own musical philosophy: creating emotional, beautiful and unique pieces of music.

It all began in 1999 with the Mistrial moniker while Matthew was starting high school. Matt released frequently on the Neptune XVI community site where he met Vincent “Vizion” Fugere. Enthralled with the concept of the “scene,” he created Dark Agent Productions with Vizion and his local friends, all of whom used ModPlug Tracker. Matt made huge strides in his ability to compose during his years tracking, and in 2001, he started the Ronin Collective netlabel with long-time friend Vincent “Vizion” Fugere.

The following year, Matt started composing with Reason and released “Dreamcoat” on the Hellven netlabel, enabling Matt to reach thousands of new listeners. Soon thereafter, he adopted the Echion moniker and produced a number of successful EP releases on Ronin Collective. While short-lived, the Echion moniker saw the release of dozens of pieces, all of which would culminate in Matthew’s greatest achievement yet.

In late 2003, Matt shifted gears again and started writing with Logic Pro, and adopted the well-known moniker Blisaed. Blisaed was born from the concept of creating blissful electronic music, which has become synonymous with the moniker since his first release on the Monotonik netlabel, As Time Passes EP. This Monotonik release featured “Connect,” one of Matt’s masterpieces, and ushered in a new era for the young aspiring musician.

2004 was a big year for Matt, as it saw a follow-up to the largely successful As Time Passes EP with the release of Hopeless Falling From EP. Matt continued to release consistently on the Ronin Collective netlabel, as well as gracing Yomi Records, Camomille, and Mephtik netlabels with releases. 2004 also saw the introduction of yet another moniker, Seathasky, which was a handle designated for Matt’s breakbeat, club, and techno music. Matt also became an active producer in the Los Angeles area under the name C-Ton, and produced a number of tracks for local musicians in his home studio. Finally, 2005 saw the release of Matt’s magnum opus, Luster Heart LP on the Ronin Collective netlabel, solidifying his position as one of the top electronic acts in the scene.

In 2005 Ronin Collective and Camomille still received generous releases from Matt, and on the producing front, Matt established Conessione Entertainment, a group of local rappers and producers in the Los Angeles area. Matt was even able to produce a number of tracks for a few Def Jam records artists.

When Matthew moved to Indiana in 2006 to be closer to his mother and sister, he expanded Conessione Entertainment to include local rappers from the area. While he was happy being surrounded by his family, he missed the hustle and bustle of Southern California. Upon returning to Los Angeles, Matt started work on a new Blisaed LP for Apeginine Records, but instead decided to take a break from Blisaed to further develop the sound of Seathasky. Relocating to San Diego allowed Matt a new start and the inspiration to start anew the creative process. Having always been a fan of BT, Matt strove to instill the simplicity and sophistication of BT’s music in his Seathasky productions. His hard work culminated in the release of Exist EP on the Monotonik netlabel, which was also hugely popular, and propelled Seathasky to center-stage.

While Matt is currently keeping himself busy with Blisaed and Seathasky, he is also trying to make his way into film scoring. Matthew has established himself as a thoughtful, inspiring musician, and regardless of the moniker he releases under, listeners everywhere can expect the best quality music from Matthew Centonze. "
