Biography

Turkish musician Sefika Kutluer, is a flute soloist. She has studied at Ankara State Conservatory and graduated with honors and awards in 1979, when she became a flute member of the "Presidential Symphony Orchestra" .

She studied for her soloist career in Vienna and Rome.

She taught at the Ankara Conservatory for several years.

She has a wide range of repertoire varying from Baroque, classical, romantic and crossover works to the music of the east and the west.

Experimenting with her instrument, trying to find new ways of playing it and reaching new tone colors, she is known with her special flute tone and virtuosity. She introduces Turkish music and rhythm, globally, in classical music formation; while protecting the music’s character. She has many times played the Turkish composers’ music throughout the world and in classical radio-TV stations, also introducing the great Turkish mystic philosophers Mevlana and Yunus Emre, explaining their philosophy. She has performed the world premier of many new-composed music, some of them written for her.

After winning several international competitions and launching her truly international career as a soloist, she was awarded the presidential Medal in Turkey, in 1985, the highest honor that country bestows on an individual, and in 1998 she became a "State Artist".

She has performed several concert tours, joined many International Music Festivals and gave master-classes in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Spain, Belgium, USA, Singapore, Israel, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia&Montenegro ,Bulgaria, Cyprus, United Kingdom, Mexico, Azerbaijan, China and Japan and received very favorable reviews. She has performed a concert at the Palace of Spain in the presence of the King and the Queen and in Tokyo under the auspices of Prince Mikasa.

She made concert tours and CD recordings with several famous conductors and orchestra’s including; Zubin Mehta, Sir Charles Mackerras, Peter Breiner, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Northern Symphony Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Philharmonic, and Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

SONY released her “International first prize winners” concert in Vienna as a CD. Sefika Kutluer has several CD’s recorded with Orchestra, piano and guitar accompaniment, released by Pan Classical, Sony Classical, Naxos and Gallo International.
