“Wonder,” the lead single and title track to Mendes' fourth studio album is being described as “the emblematic of Shawn’s profound state of contemplation,” with references to his relationship with Camila Cabello, and marks the first release in over a year since the duet with Camila on “Señorita”.

Initially confirmed by radio personality Elvis Duran, Shawn announced the song on September 30, 2020, following with a teaser video featuring the album’s intro. A “Wonder Virtual Live Event” was held before the premiere of the song’s visuals.

"I feel like “Wonder” is in a lot of ways me just reflecting on my life, and life in general… I’ve never really done that before… probably because I didn’t have the mental capacity and clarity to even be able to reflect, and also probably because I was really scared of what people would think if I started to reflect in my music.

Here’s a real sense of freedom that this song oozes out to me, that makes me love it even more."
