Out There Somewhere is one of the truest space rock albums, and probably my favorite. RIP Andy.

https://www.facebook.com/shipoffools2014 During a frenetic three year period (1992-1995) Ship of Fools recorded two studio albums, 'Close Your Eyes (Forget The World)' (1992) and 'Out There Somewhere' (1994) and performed live throughout Europe and the UK. 2012 found the original band members working on songs for what was to become a new Ship of Fools studio album. The new songs mark a departure from the instrumental music of the first two albums, with vocals now being featured throughout. Retaining the name 'Ship of Fools' is purely incidental. There will be no attempt to recreate the past. All future live sets will consist entirely of new material. We wrote this song for Andy, listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/a_t_o_m-1/ill-see-you-on-the-other-side

Really sad news about Andy. I didn't know him but he always took the time to respond to shouts on Lfm etc. Respects to his family and friends. RIP.

I K NOW THESE GUYS, I USED TO RUN 'THE WEST RIDING' PUB WHICH THEY MADE THERE LOCAL. GOT THEM TO PLAY A GIG ONE FRIDAY NIGHT (AT VERY SHORT NOTICE) AND HAD THE BEST GIG I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! EVERYONE WAS OFF THERE HEADS ON SOMETHING, BUT IT WAS ALL GOOD AND I LOVED IT! I EVEN FOLLOWED THEM ROUND TO OTHER GIGS AND HAD A RIGHT LAUGH, I EVEN JOINED IN WITH THE 'SKIP RATS' FIRE BREATHING, OFF MY NUT, BEFORE A GIG ONCE, BRILLIANT! UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE TO INFORM EVERYONE THAT ANDY BANKS HAS DIED, I KNOW NOT HOW YET, BUT WE HAVE ALL LOST A TRUE MUSICAL GENIUS AND PERSONALLY AN OLD FRIEND I HAD SOME GREAT MEMORABLE TIMES WITH!

Is this the same Ship of Fools that used to perform Dream Theater and Rush covers? I remember downloading some MP3s of "Peruvian Skies", "You Not Me", and "Subdivisions" about 10 years ago. I also remember an original song called "Country Halen" and a few others I can't remember the names of. Both the covers and the originals were really good, but I never heard anything from them after that. I think one of the band members may have posted on the Ytsejam - at the very least, that's where I first heard of them. Anyone remember this band at all? Is this the same band?

"mother" is a decent compilation, but they should have made a double-cd! some brillant tracks were missing; like the title-track of one of the most amazing and spaced-out works ever: "somewhere out there"!
