One of three Shoes Elektra records—Present Tense (1979), Tongue Twister (1981), and Boomerang (1982)—Present Tense won Shoes an international following and solid critical respect. Shoes’ videos—“Too Late” and “Tomorrow Night” in particular—were prominently featured on early MTV.
