The Shostakovich String Quartet formed in 1967 in Moscow, and have performed in 35 countries during the past several decades. They have performed and recorded the entire cycle of Shostakovich's string quartets. In addition, their repertoire includes works by major European comoposers including Haydn, Mozart, Bheetoven and Brahms. It also includwes works for string quartet by such Russion composers as Glinka and Barodin. The Shostakovich String Quartet's repertoire also includes some 20th century works, including those of Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky. They have recorded CDs and LPs for various labels including Deutsche Grammophone, Ricordi, MFSC, EMI, and others. All members of The Quartet teach at the Moscow Conservatory.
