This album has grown on me a fair bit over the years. It's probably still my least fave, but has some very great moments on it - more than I thought there were when I first heard it.

with Neon Ballroom and Diorama, Silverchair became something truly spectacular. YM just feels like regression. [2]

This is a bit awkward, I can't say I love Young Modern outside of a few tracks but I'm not a grunge fan-boy by any means. The first two albums are good for what they are, teenage grunge rock. But with Neon Ballroom and Diorama, Silverchair became something truly spectacular. YM just feels like regression.

C'mon, what's not to like about Young Modern? Pure perfection. <3 Grunge lovers: I hear you, it must be so frustrating to realize that grunge is dead and it's not coming back. Keep listening to your outdated grunge songs and get lost.

I don't know how anyone could put Silverchair's first two albums about this... Fuck how you feel, this album is better in almost every aspect.

People often think this album is strange, based on previous Chair releases, but, this is a mind-blowing-awesomely-produced-incredibly-underrated album! This is Silverchair's finest and most mature moment. A shame they are on hiatus. I would love to see what would come next. Analogically speaking, this is like when The Beatles released Revolver or Sgt. Pepper's (not comparing here, please!). It is a new chapter.

This album is fantastic. I didn't like it in the first time that i heard it, as well as Diorama, but now Diorama is my favourite Silverchair album, and i love Young Modern.

I'm with kinsky, even if I'm not a huuuuge fan of this album. There are at least a few golden moments on it that make it worth buying!

Silverchair's best. I'm surprised this isn't the standard opinion held by fans.

People who don't appreciate this album or Diorama don't understand about a little thing called 'musical evolution' it happens to all bands..weather they like it or not. This is a great album and i feel they tried to mix the high emotionality of Diorama but give it more of a pop feel whilst still exuding iconic silverchair energy. Daniel John shines as the creative mastermind that he is.
