Biography

Skidmore Fountain is an indie rock band that feels both classic and unconventional, comfortable and disquieting. Five-string electric cello (its fifth string acts as bass), guitar, drums, and vocals make up the Brooklyn-based band. Multi-Grammy award-winning producer Ken Lewis (John Legend, David Byrne, Beastie Boys) produced the band's 11-track album, Break (Triple R Records). With Break, what you'll get is a complex, textural and certainly modern sound. "A lot of innovative and enjoyable music here," Music Morsels wrote of the disc. "Brooklyn's Skidmore Fountain sprays out poppy streams of alt-rock with surprising dexterity," proclaimed CMJ New Music Report. "The gobs of catchy choruses seem destined for crowd shout-alongs."

It was in Brooklyn that the original three multi-instrumentalists of Skidmore Fountain—Randy Bergida, Steven Cohen and Topu Lyo—joined with veteran drummer Dylan Wissing (Johnny Socko, Julia Jones). Together, the solid quartet quickly gelled into an advanced, exciting group, channeling influences like Gang of Four, David Bowie and the Specials through Skidmore Fountain's unique indie rock orchestration.

Skidmore Fountain has headlined at New York City venues Arlene's Grocery, Knitting Factory, the Bitter End, Piano's and the legendary CBGB's. They earned a spot in the semifinals of the 2006 Emergenza Festival. They reached Top 25 FMQB on the charts, been broadcast on Breakthru Radio, Boston college radio WZBC and WTBU, charted on Radio Crystal Blue, and performed live on the nationally syndicated Joey Reynolds Show.

Following two Midwest U.S. tours in 2007—along with festival appearances at the CMJ Music Marathon and PLAY:stl—Skidmore Fountain is playing select shows in New York and throughout the Northeast as they work out new material for a follow-up release, due summer 2008.
