his debut album sounds so familiar and nostalgic even though I hadn't heard it before

Though the eponymous LP was landmarking in dubstep, it gets badly old to my ears. The horns emulations are too digital and the bass sounds sometimes cheap.

Y'know, at least now I feel somewhat the opposite. I always felt Skream's recordings sounded a bit cheap and bare bones. But again recently listening to ambient and just slightly later Skream, I found his unique style of droning wobble basses with sparse instrumentation kind of interesting and comfortable, even if that middle ground between of ambiance and composition is usually kinda detestable to me. Your opinion is definitely sympathizable though.

Amazing how easy it is to make Skream influenced dubstep tracks now. That may sound like a diss, but all it really means is that technology and emulation of this man (among others') style advanced quickly. He discovered and founded it, but his credibility gets left behind by many because he only provided the framework for the more popular styles. But contemporary artists still use Massive sounds inspired by Skream.

Not his fans, but I think the industry dismissed him when he started making old school techno as quickly as they picked him up after Midnight Request Line. Then again, I live in the US, so maybe my judgement is skewed. Even most contemporary dubstep artists don't even try to emulate or be influenced by his hypnotic, repetitive style anymore though. At least these days there is more of a middle ground between pure subwoofer dub and Skrillex, the genre as a whole has definitely expanded

@ruda_kulka Just cause someone dared to make a cover of a track, doesn't mean they've ruined the track. Get over your fucking self.

"Dubstep" is such an over bloated and pedestrian genre now, who can blame him if he wants nothing to do with it. All we need to do is spin Skream! to soothe our souls.

A sad thing that he has left the dubstep scene. I hope he returns, someday. [2]
