Smog's Rock Bottom Riser touches my spirit in a powerful way. So of course i was eager to listen to your recommendation of Gudrun Gut's "perfect version" of it. In my humble opinion, Bill Callahan's indie folk gem, that musically tells a story bursting with humanity, does not translate well when conceptualized as an arty electronic cover. However, in all fairness ~ i imagine it might be well received if performed at an avantgarde cabaret:- _-)

I believe this picture is good representation of Bill during the Smog period; it has a certain uncomfortable atmosphere to it, so please, vote up: http://www.last.fm/music/Smog/+images/104099869

I agree, The Doctor Came at Dawn is one of his best, its so rich in emotion. There are days it can be too much to listen to.

the doctor came at dawn came into my life during the only time when i could fully understand the emotions behind that album. i think i might complete my life without meeting anyone else who understands that album in the same way that i do and it frightens me deeply. i love smog. i love bill callahan. i love everything. i wanted to express my love in a way that i'd hope someone would read this and love something in the same way that i love the doctor came at dawn. thank you, bill. thank you, smog. you really helped me.

Anyone know any way of getting hold of any of the Smog peel sessions. Desperately want the '94 one with Cynthia Dall, and others too of course.

My favourite song-writer, really profound. He has an introverted weirdness without being weird for the sake of it.
