tracks 11 & 12 are everything, such a pity I used to drop this album in the middle

I always loved this album and thought it was their best, but after hearing the outtakes disc from the "deluxe edition" I realize most of my favorite tracks (by Soundgarden in general) ended up being omitted for whatever reasons. "Black Rain" and "Cold Bitch" are probably tied for my favorite songs they ever did. I would have loved to see "Birth Ritual" and "Blind Dogs" included as well.

I remember not liking this on my first listen, but the secret is that album really starts to shine on Somewhere and right until New Damage. Not to belittle the first half, I like Outshined a lot, but stuff like Drawings Flies and Room A Thousand Years Wide is just mind-blowing.

Their best album for me. Every song is a highlight. Retains their heavy metal sound, not diluting it with alt-rock like their next two releases. When I heard of Chris' passing, this was the first album I thought about.

There didn't go all out alt-rock on a lot of their tracks. Songs like Limo Wreck, Kickstand, 4th of July, Ty Cobb, Never the Machine Forever and Overfloater still retain they metal side.

There wasn't too much of a alternative sound on their next release, but on Down on the Upside there sure was. This album and Superunknown are 1a and 1b for me. 4th of July my be my all-time favorite Soundgarden song, along with Rusty Cage.

I'm not saying this to argue against your preferences, but even on their earlier releases they are still waay more experimental and "alt" than your average next-door heavy metal band. And as for Superunknown and DOTU, imo, those two albums are too odd and idiosyncratic to be described as a dilution by means of "alt-rock", since to me they seem like an organic evolution of their sound. I suspect that if Badmotorfinger was mixed and mastered in the same vein as Superunknown and DOTU, it would show its "alt" colours, and vice versa. The live performances show it. Their songwriting foundations remain throughout their discography.

Great comment. I love the back and forth. It's very refreshing that there can be a conversation on this site discussing differing opinions and preferences without some lame-brain saying, "You suck."

Devastated. RIP Chris. When Badmotorfinger came out, I listened to it obsessively for weeks non-stop on repeat, until I barely knew where I was in the album at any one time.

Know what you mean but for me it's 'Mind Riot' that was the song I always skipped. I've grow to appreciate it a bit more as the years pass but I still think it's the weak link on what is to me at least the best album of all time.

Soundgarden really rock out live on youtube. Im hopeful for a Soundgarden live album. To North Korea the west has nothing against you. The 1953 ceasefire is an honourable ceasefire from the USA shadow Government (Kennedy Windsor)....

Soundgarden are a cool band and I have never done them a wrong turn and never will do them or anyone a wrong turn as I am a happy kind Christian. I thank Chris Cornell often for Rusty Cage and Jesus Christ Pose and the other songs on Badmotorfinger.

Soundgarden will always be one of my ten favourite bands. The new album King Animal is excellent. Right now Tau Ceti Terra Nova is sending James Bond 1987 film like the approximate distance 11.87 light years away. Tau is returning an Earth signal very cool science like the film contact. Tau Earth Alliance Damn Eh TEADE like the giant fort meade parabolas. Parallel world research is also cool. A true friend and Tau Ceti Terra Nova Ambassador. Thats right my frozen egg came from Tau Ceti Terra Nova (planet population about 2.5 billion) to Planet Earth. Like Duck Dodgers Earth is EH and Tau Ceti Terra Nova is BE like the planets a b c d and so on...

Soundgarden as always are one of my ten fave bands. Daughter Spirit and I had an amazing weekend but she was happy to get to her command. Excellent grasp of battalion and div matters multi div to look forward to. I used to tac ex four airporne divs taking great lakes area in case of power out still water to drink from decent lake huron if water is boiled. In the 1980s I drank from lake huron and didnt get the trots the water was great half a mile from shore almost no aftertaste. Daughter spirit is a toughie with special gifts. She is old enough to watch cyborg as a teenager. Seeing Hin and my hero Van Damme character on the cross in theater ticked a lot of people off as Van damme has a lot of fans. Politburo rocks thanks to Mother Mary. Relations between the tribes more cordial now. Everywhere Spirit Iesu Mother Mary go people say hi in cool ways. A true friend.....

Soundgarden rock out always. Amateur physicists dream big dreams of splitting the tachyon into thirds safely in laboratory conditions. Soundgarden and particle physics such a good band Soundgarden is album 3 would have to be rotational if Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are the favourites. Physicist joke why did I have thirds of Beef Teriyaki? Presumably there is a phase transition at A1 ha! from Holoraphy of the Tachyon, my number 5687.5 (feet roughly) is the distance a tachyon passes through rock before emitting cherenkov radiation roughly. The A1 is a pun on steak sauce and now you know the rest of the SNO story rolly slang for tachyon holography tachyon holography to the tune happy anniversary. A true friend.
