A masterpiece. It's tough to say whether this is their best album, their first four albums are each very brilliant. Most overlooked band of the 60s.

This album is a true masterpiece; superlative from start to finish and one of the most underrated and unknown masterworks from the 1970's. It should be essential listening for all audiophiles. Definitely in my Top Ten greatest rock albums of all time.

I have retained my 8 Track version (which I cannot play, since who owns an 8 Track anymore?) just because I loved it so very much. I have had it since the early 1970s, and think its about time to upgrade to a CD, doncha think? It is the most awesome album of that era, I think.

When this came out, I remember reading a review that said something like, 'Carlos Santana is not worthy to carry Randy California's guitar case.' Well, Abraxas is one of my all-time favourites, so I have to disagree with that statement. But Dr. Sardonicus is definitely one of the great rock albums of the '70s, and it sounds as fresh today as it did then. Especially through a good set of headphones!
