This reminds me of Bowie's 1974 hit, Fame. The vocal accent on "pain" falls much like the accent on "fame" in that tune. The same accent falls on the word "pain" when Bowie sings, "gotta get a raincheck on pain." In general, the whole 70s soul-funk vibe and video production here recalls Bowie's "plastic soul" era.

This sounds like Annie channeling Beck on “Midnight Vultures” as he channeled Prince and Bowie lol

I hate to say it, but I'm feeling kinda ambivalent on this track. I mean the chorus is fantastic, but the verses feel like they're missing something that would make them memorable... that being said, I'm super excited for the album, she always serves quality!

Not really feeling this. I feel like ever since Strange Mercy, Annie's been travelling down this road that takes her further from actually exploring newer sounds and more into the realms of retro-pastiche. Don't @ me.
