Listening to them on Spotify is a nightmare for scrobbling. Are there any of their albums out there without the "Album Version" at the end of the title?

oh I know, I have a very large mp3 collection and still keep one from years ago. However, I end up doing the bulk of my listening via Spotify on my work computer since I don't keep any mp3s there.

You could use open scrobbler on your computer or pano scrobbler on your phone to change the name of the album. On open scrobbler you could choose the album version that doesn't have the "(Album Version)" on the title, and on pano scrobbler you can change the tags manually for each scrobble.

don't be too thicked off about the christian tagged, as long as you're grooving on the music, just go for it.

Has anyone written anything about the theological, political, or sociological aspects of the seemingly genuinely grassroots, DIY Christian punk/indie/hardcore/etc scene?

Something like "Witnessing Suburbia: Conservatives and Christian Youth Culture" by Eileen Luhr?

The rest of their discography is worth a listen too. Incredibly consistent band throughout.

I don't think even the band knows. "We are commanded by Christ to go out and preach the Word, but I don't know how that relates to Starflyer, though, I really don't." https://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/articles/music/Starflyer_59_Creative_fixtures_of_the_US_Christian_underground/35075/p1/

It would be annoying to have such beautiful music spoiled by some blatantly religious lyrics. Jason Martin is free to believe whatever he want, but I, myself, am glad that the extent to which he is incorporating his faith into his work is close to minimal.

if this very good music is actually christian rock that makes it about seven thousand times cooler

Jason Martin is definitely super Xian. It doesn’t come out much in the music but almost all of their releases has been on the Xian label Tooth & Nail and every album says “all praise and glory to Jesus Christ our lord and savior” in tje liner notes. There are a number of other excellent artists associated with Jason Martin and that Christian indie rock subculture like David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), TW Walsh, Richard Swift, etc. They have frequently collaborated on various projects.

thanks! yeah, for me, i think being christian and choosing to release your music through a christian record label is more than enough to qualify as 'christian rock.' i adore the fact that some of the best shoegaze records ever made are christian rock

It always surprises me how much love Silver gets. It's a tough one for me. Much prefer Gold and Americana as far as early stuff. Though Old is my fav.
