Biography

Who wants to be put in a box? Certainly not Steve Nocerino. His multi-faceted skills as both a DJ and producer has earned him the right to defy genre boundaries, ignoring all the rules set down by his musical predecessors to 'find a style' and stick to it.
But that's exactly it – Steve recognises that style is a bottom line and not an adornment. Be it house, minimal or techno, there is always a common thread that carries through his DJ selections and productions. When you press play on a Steve Nocerino track, you can always be sure to hear a groovy rhythm driven by warm pumping beats. His sound is forward moving and progressive with a vintage feel. This amalgamation of sounds can be attributed to Steve's deep understanding of both vintage and modern tools used in his production as well as from a hybrid of Influences inlcuded : Daft Punk, Carl Craig, Detroit Sounds both Techno & House.

"Anyone who is a real music enthusiast can find elements of familiarity in any genre" explains Steve. "I have so many different influences which have inspired me throughout my life – from acid jazz to rock to funk – it would be creatively restricting to not explore different sounds in my own work in the same way that I've been moved by different music in my life. It's like going to a buffet and only trying one dish. What a waste."

Steve's varied musical diet comes only second to his seasoned skill as a musician when defining what makes him a strong producer. Steve trained on piano & keyboards from the tender age of 5, bass from the age of 13, and got his first Atari machine that same year – thrusting him into the world of production at a ripe young age. He soon became skilled at using other analog instruments such as juno, moog syths and 909 and 808 drum machines. His profound experience with these instruments is evident in his music today. Whenever you hear a Steve Nocerino production, you will hear the fusion of analog & vintage alongside newer sounds.

In the days of technology-made-easy creating a new breed of home-schooled producers, it's a rarity to find someone with experience in both 'old school' analog methods as well as having a mastery of latest digital production tools.

So spot on are his skills, that many of his releases can be found in the charts and record bags of some of the world's top DJs including Danny Tenaglia, Tom Stephan and Joel T. Vannelli . More notably, his last release Cod Liver Oil was remixed and launched by Wally Lopez as the opening track at Space, Ibiza in 2008 - making it an anthem for the season. Spamking and My Day followed suit in the ranks of success after being featured on several top selling compilations around the world and My Day as an individual release was so popular that it was repressed twice in less than a month.

In addition to original productions, recent notable remixes include: Troya upcoming on Noir Music, Midnight Magic upcoming on Peppermint Jam, and Sikk My Washing Machine.

Steve has also collaborated with vocalists such as Michelle Weeks, Angie Brown, Wendy Lewis, Mario Biondi, and Kaya (Boney M).

As a DJ, Steve has been a long standing resident at Ministry of Sound and has shared the decks with a who's who of Dance music, including: Rulin, Shapeshifters, ATFC, Copyright, Marc Romboy, and Victor Calderone to name a few. And his previous residency at Egg saw him DJing alongside the likes of Tiger Stripes, Agoria, and James Priestly. He also can be found playing at some of London's best underground venues such as 54, The Whitehouse, and was invited to play at London's exclusive Shoreditch House, a private members clubs which is frequented by the likes of Noel Gallager, Simon LeBon, and Kate Moss……

If variety is the spice of life then Steve Nocerino is definitely hottest ingredient in the mix of breaking talent in the UK club scene. Watch this space for more genre defying sounds from the musical maestro.
