Biography

Being born in South Africa 26 years ago, Steven in his childhood was accustomed to spending his days in the sweltering heat on the local beaches surfing with his mates. His love for the ocean was only ever surpassed for a greater passion toward music. Since an early age he always made an effort to collect as many mixtapes as possible by swapping with friends or picking them up from the local store,  this would then be followed by recording and re-recording different playlists again and again until eventually the cassette would have no more and snap!

It was 1996 when a certain mixtape was given to him from a friend at school did the first taste of electronic music appear. The natural progression then for him was to be able to make these mixtapes that he kept hearing and so the dream began.

Eventually in 1998 Steven’s father succumbed to his continuous nagging and purchased his first setup being a belt driven turntable and single CD Player with pitching slider. Determined to master this artform Steven spent countless days and nights in his room playing out old records again.

After 2 years of practice and determination he keen to get into the club scene and was taken under the wing of a local DJ, Luisfelipe Carneiro. Luis and Steven quickly became the best of friends and shared a lot of common interests in music. Luisfelipe organised for Steven to play downstairs in the VIP bar at the Red Dog, a club situated in his hometown Durban. Many nights were spent playing in this tiny dj booth playing out deep and funky house on equipment much older than he was! It wasn’t long before talent was noticed and he was moved to the main room of the club which held over 2000 punters every week. Being only 17 years old Steven was not legally allowed to be inside the clubs’ premises but the owners decided to show a blind eye to this fact and let him continue playing out every week for 2 years.

Early in 2002 and after doing various nights in and around South Africa he received his next break at the Roman Lounge the highest rated Gay and Lesbian club in South Africa. After starting a weekly residency there delivering quality house, techno and trance to a up for it crowd. With his night becoming a well known weekly event, Steven was soon invited to guest on the local radio stations further marketing his residency.

It was only in 2005 that Steven decided to take the leap across the pond to setup camp in his new home, Central London. Being overwhelmed with this great and beautiful city, Steven began his new life in the studio spending as much time as possible behind the screens getting sounds together.

Now in 2009 and during the opening parties in Ibiza Steven was asked by a friend of his to fill in a opening slot at Kanya Beach Bar in the 12pm daytime slot, after arriving and taking in the atmosphere Steven completely scrapped the set he had planned for the last week and threw together a set of chilled and upbeat house for the people there which caught a certain promoters attention. This happened to be none other than that of Richard Hall from Dirty Ego. After sharing a few laughs and some contact details it was quickly arranged that Steven would become a part of the Dirty Ego family where he looks forward to growing with the brand and bringing his sounds to Dirty Ego events around the globe.
