Biography

Strawberry Fair is the stage name of swedish / musician Jenny Franzén (born in the the Municipality of Ekerö in August, 1983). Inspired by bands such as The Aislers Set, Shop Assistants and Television Personalities she began writing her own material in the early part of the 21st century. 2003 saw the release of her first two self financed CD-R singles: "Empty Wallets and Greedy Companies" and "Strawberry Fair". That same year her song "Don't Take Everything So Seriously" was featured on "Picknick Picks!", a cassette compilation put together by the swedish fanzine Picknick and the California based record company Popgun.

The next track Jenny committed to disc was "Attack!" and the album was "This Is My Secret Garden", a compilation released 2005 by the My Secret Garden label. "Attack!" was originally penned in 1965 by Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell for the New York girl group The Toys. The fact that Jenny chose to cover it is a clear indication of her shift in musical direction - the lo-fi mannerisms of those introductory CD-Rs replaced by girl group, Motown and Brill Building influences.

Influences she continues to explore and make her own even as we speak.

February 2008 marked the release of the "Strawberry Fair sings 'I Can't Do Anything'" EP (Alltid hela tiden Records). You can listen to it on this page and on Strawberry Fair's MySpace.

And, yeah, the name Strawberry Fair is appropriated from a My Little Pony character. But if you call Jenny "twee" she'll probably gaffa tape you to a Fat Tulips' record and throw you in the nearest lake.
