You thought the theater gays loved this album before, just wait. I will not be normal about this musical.

Can't believe Sufjan Stevens actually created the state of Illinois! What a genius

I laughed. I cried, a number of times. I sweat, I danced. I got... shot, I ate, and... I had many epiphanies.

Sounds like you're suffering from Illinoisitis. Might want to talk to a doctor about that

Imagine them (properly) making a musical / movie based on this album. I'd probably expire.

An amazing album to just relax and absorb while doing any other side activities. Thank you so much, Sufjan, that was really cool!

Thankful I never got this mentality as Illinois and AoA are essentially tied for my faves of his but can’t say I disagree with anything you say about Illinois in particular. There’s a reason it’s lasting.

That’s fair I guess, at least you are open to a change in perception which is much more than most people care to claim unfortunately. I know unfortunately AoA did get an extra dose of dislike for being the album right after Illinois along with its sound which I always felt badly and somewhat defensive for it for. But as I said, your take on the feel and depth of this album is spot on, no arguments there.

This is what I can think of right now: ---1. Try the song "Up with People" by Lambchop. ---2. Some of the work by the band San Fermin seems to emulate the sound of Sufjan Stevens. You can try the song "Daedalus (What We Have)", for example. ---3. The last song on Illinois (Out of Egypt) sounds like Steve Reich. You can listen to the studio album for "Music for 18 Musicians". Hope it helped (Y)
