This album is very special to me. For both personal reasons and the music itself. I enjoy the mixture between pop punk summer anthems and the whole cutesy, sentimental sound on rather depressing subject matter. I feel like I am a fly on the wall during a positive and productive Deryck Whibley therapy session. The whole "mature" thing is thrown around a lot when it comes to these piano-laced, punk opera albums, but I feel it fits here. It's a mature thinking man's All Killer No Filler. It makes me feel like Deryck was in control of his demons and in a good place during this period of time. It is also pretty tragic considering Deryck's life fell apart a few years after this with divorce and near death alcoholism.

Underclass Hero isn't a bad album by any means, but it is pretty unoriginal. It seems clear that after making DTLITY and Chuck, which seem inspired by hardcore punk and metal, that they (or more likely, the label) wanted to go in a more commercial direction, although Baksh leaving probably meant there was less of a metal influence within the music. There are so many points throughout this album where I think it sounds like blink-182's self-titled, Green Day's American Idiot, or My Chemical Romance's Black Parade, and those are not bad inspirations to have, but the similarities feel a bit blatant to me.

Baksh left, 'tis sad such a talented lad left Sum 41. Didn't stop shit, though. Creative, new, hard hitting, amazing vocals. Nice. Took me a good amount of time to warm up to it. But man, it's not all sap like I thought. March Of The Dogs converted me.

This album sounds like it's heavily influenced by previous blink 182 and Green Day albums..

This album might have gotten a lot of shit, but I think they really branched out here. Only now appreciating the huge amount of progress on this album.

I like this CD. It's not as good as Chuck or DTLI, but it's still a good album imo.

such an obvious attempt to emulate American Idiot. Worst Sum 41 album for sure.
