Biography
Sunday Night Improvisational Collective is a Minneapolis based collection of experimental musicians who meet on a Sunday night (naturally). All the recordings are taken from their Sunday night jams and live performances. The music is improvisational, recorded as a single stereo rendering, after which the performances are augmented and manipulated by Richard Knutson (Plum Flower Embroidery), some tracks more than others, while a few tracks remain the pure item.
Sunday Night IC comprises of the core musicians Leo Whitebird (White Plum), Leo's brother Matt, Tim Lavin and Phil Belknap (Big Surf) and Richard Knutson.
Sunday night is often jazz based psychedelic, with jams lasting for hours, members changing instruments as the mood carries them. The nature of the recordings is such that, whatever instrument is closest on the single mic will dominate the take, distortion and other anomalies gave rise to the idea that Richard could use artistic license and create a hybrid in the spirit of the original jam sessions.
